Music and media star Jon ‘Supremo’ Germain has voiced concern over the increasing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in music, warning that it threatens to strip the creative process of its soul.

The TV and radio personality, who rose to music fame with his 2008 album Love Zone, revealed that he recently discovered his son’s favourite Billboard-charting track was entirely AI-generated.

Germain said the technology removes the sweat, joy, and human touch that go into creating music.

“It kills the excitement of spending months in the studio, getting the perfect song, writing the song, rewriting the verse, being mixed and mastered,” he explained.

Reflecting on his career, Germain recalled recording his megahit In Her Arms while battling a cold, noting how human flaws and experiences can shape music in ways AI cannot replicate.

Despite these concerns, he remains optimistic about the global future of music and the growing influence of Afrobeat.

“I’ve been fighting for this to happen for like 40 years,” he said, highlighting R&B’s impact on Afrobeats.

“One day,” he foretold, “there’s going to be an African guy singing R&B that can be compared to R. Kelly and all the top guys. And it’s happening.”

Germain traced his musical roots to the early 1990s, noting his first professional recording with R&B band MGKK4 in 1993, while also drawing inspiration from rock through collaborations with British band Van Green.

During the Asaase Radio interview with Elvis Crystal, the fashion icon also teased his upcoming single, Deep, promising his signature R&B style blended with modern influences that continue to push his sound forward.
