GTA marks National Chocolate Month with educational tour for Chorkor schoolchildren
As part of activities marking National Chocolate Month, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, led a group of schoolchildren from Chorkor on an educational excursion to Fairafric Ghana Limited, a cocoa-to-chocolate manufacturing company.
The visit offered the pupils a rare, firsthand opportunity to observe how Ghana’s cocoa beans are processed and transformed into finished chocolate products.
During the tour, the children were taken through the various stages of chocolate production, from cocoa processing to packaging, while learning about the importance of the cocoa sector to Ghana’s economy and tourism industry.
Mrs. Houadjeto said the initiative forms part of the Authority’s efforts to blend education with tourism by exposing young people to Ghana’s rich cocoa heritage and industrial potential.
She noted that such experiences help inspire children to appreciate local industries and understand the value chain behind one of the country’s most important exports.
Officials of Fairafric Ghana Limited also interacted with the pupils, explaining the company’s operations and its commitment to adding value to cocoa locally by producing chocolate in Ghana for both domestic and international markets.
National Chocolate Month is celebrated annually to promote the consumption of Ghana-made chocolate and raise awareness about the country’s cocoa industry, while encouraging tourism and local patronage.
