A lawyer for music company Ground Up, Chale has challenged claims by rapper Kwesi Arthur that he earned nothing from his professional relationship with the label, citing documented royalty payments made to the artist.

According to lawyer Jonathan K. Amable, an email sent by Ground Up, Chale founder Glen Boateng on August 4, 2025, details significant financial benefits Kwesi Arthur allegedly received during his time with the company. The email was read publicly during an X forum hosted by Joy FM journalist Kwame Dadzie on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Amable stated that Kwesi Arthur responded to the email at the time and “never disputed” its contents, raising questions about the rapper’s recent allegations.

Quoting from the email, Amable read: “To date you have benefited from GBP91,370 in royalty disbursements. A detailed breakdown of these disbursements has previously been provided. Despite these amounts which have been lawfully allocated to you, you have solicited for and received an amount of USD118,712 directly from Platoon without our prior consent, knowledge or involvement.”

The lawyer further explained Son of Jacob (2022) was distributed through Platoon, after a distribution deal was signed in 2020.

The figures quoted by the lawyer contradict assertions by Kwesi Arthur that he made absolutely nothing from his association with Ground Up, Chale, raising serious doubts about the rapper's claims of zero earnings.

The revelation comes amid heightened public debate following Kwesi Arthur’s recent accusations against Ground Up, Chale, in which he alleged exploitative practices and claimed he was denied fair compensation for his work.

The dispute has reignited broader conversations within Ghana’s music industry about transparency, contract interpretation, and artist–label relationships.

As of now, Kwesi Arthur has not publicly responded to the specific figures cited in the email read by Ground Up’s legal representative.
