Management of Metro Mass Transit (MMT) has been accused of selling fit-for-purpose buses, and not scrap vehicles, for extremely low prices during the period leading up to the 2016 change of government.

The allegation was made by Nana Osei Bamfo, a former Deputy Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit, who insists that the buses sold at the time were fully functional and roadworthy, contrary to claims that they were scrapped or unserviceable.

According to him, the buses were disposed of at prices ranging between GH₵500 and GH₵1,200, with receipts issued to buyers, even though the vehicles were still operational.

He stressed that some of the buses sold were capable of transporting passengers and should not have been classified as scrap.

“There is evidence to show that these were not scrapped buses.

Some of them were working buses that had value,” Nana Osei Bamfo stated.

He added that documentation, including receipts, exists to back the claims and can be made available to investigators and the public.

He further revealed that under standard MMT procedures, any bus officially designated as scrap was required to be dismantled or cut before leaving the yard, to prevent resale or reuse.

However, in the cases cited, entire buses reportedly left MMT premises intact.
