Residents alarmed as man with cannula and diapers found abandoned at Achimota
Residents around Achimota New Station have raised serious concerns after a young man, believed to be in his early 20s, was found lying helplessly on the pavement, apparently in urgent need of medical care.
As of 9:00 a.m., the man was still lying on the right side of the pavement immediately upon entering the Achimota New Station.
Eyewitnesses say he was wearing diapers and had a cannula attached to his arm, fueling suspicions that he may have absconded from a hospital or been abandoned after receiving medical treatment.
According to residents, the man has been at the location since the previous day.
Alarmed by his condition, some residents reported the situation to the police.
Although officers reportedly responded to the call, they allegedly left the scene without offering assistance or explaining their actions to residents.
Attempts to get help from the Ghana Ambulance Service have also, according to residents, yielded no response.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Kweku Akufo, a resident whose office is close to the scene, described the situation as deeply troubling.
“When I arrived, one of the women around told me he had been sleeping here since yesterday.
We called the police; they came and left without saying anything.
We also called the ambulance service, but there has been no response.
This man clearly needs urgent medical attention,” he said.
Dr. Akufo warned that the man’s condition could deteriorate rapidly if immediate action is not taken.
“A human being is lying prostrate on the pavement as soon as you enter Achimota New Station. He is wearing diapers and has a cannula attached. None of the institutions responsible are responding. This is distressing,” another eyewitness said.
Residents say they refrained from taking photographs out of concern for the man’s dignity but insist the situation remains critical.
“If he is not attended to immediately, he could die,” Dr. Akufo cautioned.
The residents are now appealing to the appropriate authorities, including health and emergency services, to intervene swiftly to prevent a possible tragedy.
