Greater Accra Minister temporarily shut down N-Nest Metal Company over stolen metal allegations
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, has ordered the temporary closure of N-Nest Metal Company Limited pending investigations into claims that the firm purchases stolen metal items from scrap dealers for its operations.
The directive follows preliminary findings linking the company to the acquisition of stolen streetlight cables, electrical meters, and transformers amid reports of widespread theft of public infrastructure across the region.
Speaking to journalists during a visit to the facility on Monday, January 19, Minister Ocloo called on the National Security authorities to conduct a thorough probe into the company’s operations.
“My interest is on my streetlights because we have issues with thefts. When they fix the streetlights, you notice that they pull the cables and sell the copper in it. And so it was alleged that when they steal the cables, this is where, I mean, not only here, some of the scrap companies, this is where they bring for them to what? To buy.
“Not only the streetlights, some of the electrical cables, transformers, what have you, even meters. And we were asked, I mean, to shut down the place temporarily for investigation.”
The Minister’s move highlights the government’s intensified efforts to tackle the theft of public property and ensure accountability in the recycling and scrap metal sector.
