I have been single for some time now – Akosua Agyapong confirms
Veteran Ghanaian musician and television personality, Akosua Agyapong, has clarified that she is currently single and has been for some time.
Speaking in an interview with Nayas, she declined to give details about how her marriage ended or how long she has been single, stating that she prefers to keep such matters private.
“Honestly speaking, I’m single now. I’ve been single for a while,” she said.
According to her, this is not the first time she has publicly addressed her relationship status, noting that she has made similar declarations on several occasions, including on the Gifty Anti Show, where she also confirmed that she is no longer married.
“It’s on my status that I’m married, and I want to clarify it. I’ve done that on several shows, not just this one. Last time I was on Gifty Anti’s show, and I told her I am single now, I’m no longer married,” she explained.
Akosua Agyapong also stressed that public figures are not obligated to disclose intimate details of their relationships or divorces, arguing that such personal issues should remain private.
Addressing public curiosity about celebrity relationships, she maintained that divorce is a reality some couples face, but individuals are not required to explain the reasons behind the breakdown of their marriages.
“As a musician, your private life has nothing to do with your career. You don’t need to grant interviews detailing everything that caused your marriage to end; the person might be going through worse than yours,” she said.
She further questioned why divorced couples, especially public figures, are often expected to explain their marital challenges to the public, insisting that such matters should remain private.
According to her, many marital separations happen due to circumstances that make the union unsuitable for one or both partners, rather than the fault of a specific individual.
“If it is a problem, pack your goods and go your way. If marriage doesn’t work, it’s no one’s fault,” she added.
