Entertainment
Gurunkz/Facebook (May 21, 2024): Rap star Maradona Adjei Yeboah, alias Guru

Gurunkz wants to be president of the Republic of Ghana.

"Yes, I can and I will," he said in a recent TV3 interview.

First, however, the revered Hiplife rapper has his eyes set on the presidential office of the University of Ghana (UG) Students Representative Council (SRC).

On July 10, 2024, he notified his Facebook followers he had "filed nominations together with my Vice Presidential candidate @thejaylit_ ahead of the UGSRC elections".

On Wednesday, July 21, he shared his official campaign flyer. It showed photos of the music entrepreneur born Maradona Adjei Yeboah and his sidekick on the campaign, Jeffery Adu-Yeboah, including a catchy blend-name composed with their aliases: Guru-Jaylit. The campaign, however is christened Maralit 2024, after Guru's first official name and the concluding part of Jeffery's aforementioned nickname.

In 2023, while in Level 300, Guru told CTV he would venture into student leadership on the UG-Legon, Accra, campus. He indicated he was studying Political Science and Information Studies, and, in fact, would take up Law afterwards "if God permits".

He noted to CTV's Class Showbiz panel led by Sammy Flex politics permeated every facet of ordinary life including entertainment and “so I reasoned to put it into practice and see what comes of it”.

Taking up student leadership, he, added, was to be training wheels for him “to test and see if I can do well in politics”.

The NKZ Music boss explained, also, he enrolled at Ghana's premier university because "they are good" in his fields of interest.

Meanwhile, should he gain the UGSRC presidential mandate, Guru has promised to work to reduce student fees, medical examination fees, and digitalise school IDs, among other things.
