Serwaa Amihere stopped crying over ‘cruel’ cyberbullies once she recognised they were ‘cowards’

Broadcast journalist Serwaa Amihere has noted “it’s a personal policy” not to respond to trolls on social media.
“I really think unhappy people troll people,” she added, speaking to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo.
“When you’re busy, fulfilled, and you’re happy, I don’t see how you’ll put a camera in front of you just to talk about some other person and what is happening in their life.
“I find it so cruel but then it looks like that’s how some people are.”
The TV personality advocated “everybody taking my position” and not responding to internet bullies.
She noted on social media, she does not make it a habit to read comments.
“When I post something, I post it then I go,” she explained. “Once in a while, I go through the comments and respond to the positive ones.”
Noting her repentance, she recounted times past when she found herself riled up and responding to trolls in equal measure.
Ms Amihere savoured the irony when she said, “I’ve met a couple of people on social media who have said things about me who can’t even say hello to me in real life. Do you think it’s worth it engaging such people? No, I won’t do that.”
She emphasised trolls “are cowards”.
She underlined the cunning and hypocrisy of trolls, also, when she cited an instance when someone enthusiastically requested for video selfies with her at an event, only for Serwaa’s friend to point out thereafter this individual was, in fact, fond of insulting her on social media.
“That’s it. They are keyboard warriors. That’s where it ends,” Serwaa admonished. “So you won’t get me. Take a phone and explain myself? No.”
Furthermore, according to her, she had long stopped crying over cyberbullies.
She said the insults online used to disturb her mother, which caused her much grief, but “now she encourages me not to pay attention to the trolls”.
For those who defend her honour on social media, GHOne star smiled and said, “I can’t tell them to stop.
“To the people who do. I love them back. I really appreciate people standing up for me especially in public and on social media.”
“Sometimes I wish I had followed certain people back on social media because I have seen the things they’ve written about me on other people’s platforms. It’s very heartwarming,” the social media influencer remarked.
