Shugatiti recounts being raped by ‘social media friend’
Shugatiti, born Abena Serwaa Frimpong, has shared she was once raped.
She said it was while she was “looking for a place to store my things” upon eviction.
According to her, she was helped by a “social media friend” she was in the habit of chatting with, who eventually took advantage of her while “I was asleep”.
“I told him I wanted a place to store my things because the hostel I wanted to move into operated on Mondays,” she explained.
“He forcefully had sex with me,” she said, adding, at the time, she was not popular.
“Anytime I remember this, I am saddened,” the 33-year-old socialite said, indicating she was 18 when she was raped.
She said she was not tied up by the aggressor, rhetorically asking: “When someone sleeps with you without your consent, that is rape, is it not? And someone who is determined to do something surely will.”
The hospitality entrepreneur stressed she was sleeping, and was clothed, but “normally I don’t go around with panties [on]”.
The social media sensation said she never pressed charges against the offender, nor did she reveal his identity in the interview with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo.
“I saw it as part of the vicissitudes of life. If I had not been desperate, in search of accommodation, this would not have happened,” she added, revealing she left the man’s abode the very next day for the hostel.
She was so shaken by the dark episode, she exclaimed: "Eii, but some Ghanaian men are wicked."
