E/R: 2023 edition of Manya Krobo Ngmayem festival launched

The Ngmayem festival for the year 2023 has been officially launched by the Manya Krobo Traditional Council in the Eastern Region, focusing on the theme ‘Development in Unity: Reviving Patriotism Through Unification’. 

The festive launch took place at the Volta River Authority (VRA) Club House in Akuse, Eastern Region, on August 24, 2023.

Distinguished guests, including traditional and political leaders, graced the occasion, heralding the commencement of what is expected to be a vibrant celebration of Krobo culture.

Representing The Konor of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakite II, Djasetse of the Manya Krobo Paramountcy, Nene Kpabitey Kwao III, highlighted the significance of the chosen theme. 

He emphasised the importance of unity as the foundation for their community's development journey.

Stressing the power of collective efforts, he urged everyone to put aside differences, build bridges, and collaborate to elevate the Manya Krobo state.

Nene Kpabitey Kwao III explained that the Ngmayem Festival originated from celebrating the plentiful harvest of "Ngma" (Millet), a cherished staple food. 

This tradition goes beyond a mere gathering; it symbolizes unity, resilience, and strength achieved through collective endeavours.

On his part, Mr Mark Okraku Mante, the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, representing the sector Minister officially launched the festival. 

He commended the Manya Krobo community for their dedication to showcasing the vibrant Krobo culture.

He emphasised the government's commitment to promoting tourism, with the goal of making it a major contributor to the country's Gross Domestic Product(GDP).

He urged the chiefs to use the festival as an avenue to advocate for peace, as peaceful environments are crucial for attracting tourists and facilitating development.

Adding his voice to the call for unity, Mr  Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, the Member of Parliament for the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency, further highlighted the historical unity of the people, driven by a shared pursuit of progress and development.

He encouraged continuing the legacy of their forebears to uplift Manya Krobo.
