"Scenes of Yesteryears" Museum launched to preserve Ghana’s overlooked cultural traditions
The newly opened Scenes of Yesteryears Museum is offering visitors a powerful journey through Ghana’s often-overlooked cultural heritage.
At the grand opening, Dr. Akua Owusua Amartey, CEO of Seens of Yes & Years, stated that the museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing traditional Ghanaian practices that are at risk of being forgotten.
“Our goal is to bring attention to the everyday cultural rituals that define who we are but are often taken for granted or lost in modern life,” Dr. Owusua-Amartey explained.
A key attraction in the museum is the “Stock Check” section, which features vivid images of common morning routines in Ghanaian households, such as sweeping compounds, fetching water, washing utensils, and preparing meals.
These scenes, though ordinary, are portrayed as vital cultural expressions that reflect the richness of Ghana’s identity and values.
In a separate appeal made during the event, Abususua Panin Kwasi Twum of Ahabanase called on the government to provide urgent development support to his community.
“We have seen little to no support in terms of infrastructure or social services.
The youth and children in particular need help now,” he emphasised.
