Work and be independent before marriage -Gospel musician to young women
Gospel musician Abena Serwaa Ophelia has urged young women, especially those in the gospel space, not to shy away from work and responsibility as they prepare for marriage.
Speaking on Accra-based No.1 Gospel Showbiz, the singer shared her views on relationships, stressing that many young ladies are afraid of marriage but are also unwilling to build their own lives first.
According to her, a woman must be hardworking and have something doing before entering a serious relationship.
She explained that when a man meets a woman who is not engaged in any work, it can create fear in him because he may feel that all the responsibilities will fall on him.
In such situations, the man may lose interest in marriage even though he may not openly say the real reason.
Abena Serwaa Ophelia noted that a man who truly loves a woman will encourage her to work or learn a trade, not because he dislikes her but because he worries about the future and the pressure that could come with marriage.
The gospel musician added that when a woman is hardworking or has a skill, it earns her respect from her partner.
She said this also creates balance in the relationship because both partners can support each other during difficult times.
According to her, if a woman is not working and the man also faces challenges in his job, the relationship can suffer since there will be no support system.
She therefore encouraged women to build themselves and be productive.
She also criticised the mindset of men who expect women to take full responsibility for their upkeep, describing such attitudes as unhealthy for a relationship.
