A/R: Pythons invade ECG sub-station at Ahodwo
Engineers from the Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG) in the Ashanti Region have restored power to parts of Ahodwo in Kumasi metropolis after encountering a python at a substation during repair works.
The outage occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2026, when a fault developed on a distribution line serving residents along the Ahodwo–Daban–Dr. Asafo Adjei Road.
A fault response team from ECG’s Ahinsan District was dispatched to investigate and restore supply.
While engineers were able to reconnect power to some areas, residents around the Cocoa Depot and Star Sawmill enclave remained without electricity.
In an effort to resolve the situation, the team moved to a nearby transformer to replace a faulty fuse but discovered a python occupying the substation.
Ahinsan District Engineer, Kwaku Appiah, confirmed the incident, noting that attempts by residents to capture the reptile were unsuccessful as it retreated beneath the structure.
Despite the danger, the engineers proceeded with the repair work and successfully restored power to the affected areas.
Officials from the Kumasi Zoo were later called in to assist.
During the operation, a second python was discovered, along with eggs, suggesting the reptiles had occupied the facility for several weeks.
Meanwhile, ECG’s Ashanti West Regional General Manager, George Amoah, urged customers to promptly report power outages through official ECG channels or designated WhatsApp platforms to facilitate quicker response and resolution.
