10,000 National Service Personnel to begin training under new emergency response programme – Defence Minister reveals

The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has announced the rollout of a new National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme set to begin in August 2025.
The initiative will see 10,000 National Service Personnel undergo specialised training in security, disaster preparedness, and public safety.
Providing an update on developments within the defence sector, Dr. Boamah said the programme is aimed at equipping service personnel with essential skills to respond effectively to emergencies.
He emphasised that participation is entirely voluntary and forms part of the government’s broader strategy to build a resilient and responsive security framework.
“The programme will begin with 10,000 volunteers and is expected to expand significantly in the coming year,” he noted.
Dr. Boamah also issued a strong warning to the public against falling prey to fraudulent recruitment schemes.
He reaffirmed that enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces remains strictly merit-based and free of charge.
“No individual or organisation has been authorised by the Ministry of Defence or the Ghana Armed Forces to carry out any recruitment on our behalf,” he stressed.
“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.”
