15 killed, several injured in fatal Peki–Tsame road crash
A tragic road accident on the Peki–Tsame stretch in the Volta Region has claimed the lives of at least 15 people, with several others sustaining injuries.
The fatal crash occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, and involved two commercial vehicles transporting approximately 40 passengers.
Emergency crews from the Ghana National Fire Service were dispatched to the scene, where they carried out rescue operations and freed 25 passengers trapped in the mangled vehicles.
Those who survived the collision but suffered injuries were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at a morgue.
Speaking on the incident, the Volta Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, ADO1 Hope Bedzrah, said initial findings suggest the accident occurred after the two vehicles collided head-on.
He explained that firefighters arrived promptly at the scene and immediately began efforts to rescue victims who had been trapped in the wreckage.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
