Vice President NJOA reaffirms support for women-led businesses
Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang (NJOA) has reiterated the government's commitment to supporting women-led businesses, describing them as key contributors to economic growth and social development.
She made the remarks during a visit to Reroy Cables Limited, owned by Ghanaian entrepreneur Kate Quartey-Papafio.
The vice president commended Madam Quartey-Papafio for her achievements in Ghana’s electrical and energy sector, an industry where women remain underrepresented.
According to Prof Opoku-Agyemang, the visit formed part of a broader government effort to engage directly with businesses and citizens to ensure policies respond to the realities and needs of the people.
“We are interested in visiting all businesses led by women, however big or small,” she said. “Whether they are supporting themselves, their families, or creating jobs for others, they are making important economic contributions.”
She explained that government officials have been engaging with ministries, markets, shops and businesses across the country to better understand challenges and opportunities, while strengthening the connection between policy formulation, implementation and evaluation.
The vice president said the government's development agenda is focused on improving the lives of citizens, adding that direct engagement with entrepreneurs is essential to that objective.
She described Madam Quartey-Papafio as a trailblazer whose success demonstrates the potential of women in technical and industrial sectors.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang also encouraged Reroy Cables Limited to continue training and mentoring more women to pursue careers in technical and industrial fields.
“All we need to do is give women the opportunity, raise them up, and they will fly,” she stated.
She further highlighted the need to increase female participation in sectors such as energy, agriculture and manufacturing, noting that empowering women in these industries is important for national development.
The vice president concluded by congratulating Madam Quartey-Papafio, her family, employees and management team for building a successful enterprise and expressed confidence in the company’s continued growth and contribution to Ghana’s economy.
