Accra-Cape Cost Floods: MP for Okaikwei Central wants works and Housing minister summoned
The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, is demanding urgent intervention over the persistent flooding on sections of the Accra–Cape Coast highway whenever it rains.
According to the lawmaker, the recurring situation has become a major source of concern for motorists and residents, as heavy downpours continue to leave commuters stranded for hours and disrupt economic activity along the busy stretch.
Speaking in Parliament, Mr. Boamah called for the Minister for Works and Housing to be summoned before the House to explain the delays and challenges associated with the ongoing road and drainage works in the area.
He stressed that despite the strategic importance of the highway, flooding remains a recurring problem, raising concerns about the pace and quality of work being undertaken on the project.
The Okaikwei Central MP also appealed to the Ministry of Finance to urgently release funds to contractors handling the project to accelerate construction and address the flooding menace permanently.
Mr. Boamah warned that continued delays could worsen the hardship faced by commuters, especially during the peak of the rainy season, adding that the situation poses safety risks to both drivers and pedestrians.
The Accra–Cape Coast highway serves as a major transport corridor linking the capital to several communities and regions in the Central and Western parts of the country. Portions of the road have over the years experienced severe flooding during heavy rains, leading to traffic congestion, damaged vehicles, and growing public frustration.
His comments add to increasing calls for government to prioritize drainage infrastructure and complete stalled road projects in flood-prone parts of the capital
