A/R: Dr Amoakohene gives galamsey operators 2 weeks to leave sites

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has issued a stern warning to illegal miners in the region to cease and vacate their controversial areas of operation.
Dr Amoakohene gave the illegal miners a two-week ultimatum to fully comply.
He spoke at a press engagement today, Thursday, February 6, 2025.
He indicated the directive covered illegal mining (galamsey) operators and activities in forest reserves, water bodies, and other prohibited areas.
For enforcement, he cautioned the government was sending “out a team to make sure we restore normalcy and order within the mining sector”.
He said the “commitment” was a collaborative effort with other regional ministers who share tributaries with the Ashanti Region to ensure the “holistic” impact and success of the initiative aimed at safeguarding Ghana’s natural environment against further degradation.
Dr Amoakohene noted the initiative was in line with President John Mahama’s vision to preserve Ghana’s natural environment against destructive economic practices.
