The Ministry of the Interior has suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect following reports of the alleged use of unprescribed uniforms and the possession and use of firearms and ammunition by personnel of the company during a security operation at Kwabenya in Accra on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

In a statement, the Ministry said the decision was taken after preliminary investigations pointed to possible breaches of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which regulate the activities of private security organisations in Ghana.

According to the Ministry, the use of unapproved uniforms, the unauthorised possession and use of firearms and ammunition, as well as the use of security accoutrements by private security personnel, constitute serious violations with implications for public safety and security.

As a result, Kantanka Security Services Limited has been directed to cease all operations pending the outcome of investigations into the matter.

The Ministry also advised all institutions to suspend business engagements with the company until investigations are concluded and further directives are issued.

In addition, the company has been instructed to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service and provide all information required to support ongoing investigations.

The Ministry said the suspension is an administrative measure aimed at safeguarding public safety and security while investigations continue.

It added that appropriate action will be taken after investigations are completed and in accordance with the laws and regulations governing private security operations in Ghana.
