Ashanti Regional police probe attack on patrol team at Bepotenten Sukuum
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched investigations into an incident in which a Jacobu District patrol team was attacked by a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum while officers were on routine patrol duties.
The incident occurred on January 23, 2026, after police officers retrieved a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy.
The officers subsequently instructed the boy to inform the owner of the firearm to report to the nearest police station with the appropriate documentation.
Police said that while the patrol team was returning from the operation, they were confronted by a crowd of about 100 individuals who blocked the road.
The group, some of whom were reportedly armed with cutlasses and firearms, attacked the officers and forcibly seized a service rifle.
In the ensuing confrontation, police fired shots, resulting in the shooting of the individual who seized the service weapon, while another person sustained injuries.
The stolen service rifle was later successfully recovered.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has condemned the attack and reiterated its warning to the public against acts of violence toward law enforcement officers.
The Command stressed that individuals involved in attacks on police personnel will be tracked down, arrested and made to face the full rigours of the law.
