Bono: Police restore calm after violent clash at Sampa Main Market

The Bono Regional Police Command has restored calm at Sampa in the Jaman North District following a violent clash between two rival factions — Sammordua and Sampba Gyaña — at the Sampa Main Market on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
According to a police statement issued by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, officers received a distress call reporting an exchange of gunfire between the two groups, which also led to the burning of several stores in the market area.
A team of police personnel was immediately deployed to the scene to restore order and to escort a Ghana National Fire Service tender and an ambulance transporting a pregnant woman to a nearby hospital.
However, the police team came under fire during the operation.
A service vehicle, with registration number GP 686, veered into a ditch amid the crossfire, and several officers sustained gunshot injuries.
The injured officers were rushed to the Sampa Government Hospital, where seven were treated and discharged, while one officer with a head injury was transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further medical care.
Police have since intensified patrols in Sampa, with the situation reported to be calm as of Monday.
The Bono Regional Police Command assured the public that efforts are underway to identify and arrest all individuals involved in the violent disturbances.
