Chief Justice proposes specialised courts to tackle galamsey and PAC-flagged financial crimes
Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has proposed the establishment of specialised courts to handle cases related to illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, as well as financial infractions frequently identified by Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The move forms part of broader judicial reforms aimed at strengthening accountability and improving access to justice.
The proposal was made during a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, at Parliament House yesterday, Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

During discussions, Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie outlined key reform priorities, highlighting the need for dedicated courts to fast-track prosecutions involving illegal mining and other financial irregularities consistently flagged in Public Accounts Committee reports.
He noted that such specialised courts would help reduce delays, enhance efficiency, and reinforce public confidence in the justice system.
