Concerned Youth of Tema reject claims of unauthorised demolition by TDC
A youth group identifying itself as the Concerned Youth of Tema has dismissed allegations circulating on social media accusing the Managing Director of TDC Ghana Limited, Mr. Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, of overseeing an unauthorised demolition at Community 3 in Tema.
In a press release, the group described a viral video posted by an individual identified as Freeman as misleading and malicious, insisting that the claims made against the TDC Managing Director were false and intended to tarnish his reputation.
According to the group, the structures affected were wooden structures occupied by squatters on land that is legally owned by a private businessman.
They explained that the occupants had been engaged on several occasions and asked to vacate the property to enable the lawful owner to develop the land.
The Concerned Youth of Tema also rejected claims in the video suggesting that Mr. Nunekpeku had disregarded the views or authority of the Member of Parliament for Tema West, Hon. James Enu, and the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ludwig Teye.
The group described the assertions as baseless and aimed at creating unnecessary tension among stakeholders.
The statement further disclosed that about seven months ago, some individuals laid claim to the property, prompting the Managing Director, together with his management team, to visit the site to engage the occupants.
During the engagement, the claimants were asked to provide documents to support their ownership claims, but no such documentation has been produced to date.
The group noted that all engagements with the squatters were conducted in the presence of representatives of the Tema West MP and the local Assemblyman, adding that negotiations and discussions have been ongoing for the past seven months.
The Concerned Youth of Tema concluded by urging the public to disregard what it described as smear propaganda and to rely on verified information regarding the matter.
