Oliver Baker-Vormawor has been granted bail.

The convener of the pressure group Democracy Hub, his bail is in the sum of ¢20,000.

It was finally granted on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, after three failed attempts.

Baker-Vormawor was arrested during the Democracy Hub-organised anti-illegal mining (galamsey) protests of September 21 to 23, which took place at the Revolutionary Square, 37, Accra, against a court order.

During the protest, Baker-Vormawor was seen in a viral video apparently entering a police vehicle, turning off the ignition and making away with the key. He was promptly confronted by police, however.

That day, September 22, he was arrested, and later arraigned and remanded. 

Galamsey has polluted major rivers in Ghana, threatening the production of potable water by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), for instance in the Central Region where the Pra river has suffered consequent silting. The Ghana Cocoa Board has, also, indicated the menace has dire consequences for the production of Ghana's cash crop cocoa, and exportation in view of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) which comes into effect from January 2025.
