GHS is urging the public to prioritise personal hygiene practices, including frequent handwashing

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has officially declared a cholera outbreak in the country following the confirmation of nine cases.

According to a statement from the service, the first case was detected in the Ada West District of the Greater Accra Region on Friday, 4 October 2024.

The infected individual presented with symptoms of vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain just days after attending a funeral in the nearby Ada East District.

In the days that followed, additional confirmed cases were reported in Ada East, prompting health authorities to take immediate action.

As of Friday, 11 October 2024, a total of nine cholera cases have been confirmed across both districts.

In light of this outbreak, the GHS is urging the public to prioritise personal hygiene practices, including frequent handwashing and safe food handling, to help prevent further spread of the disease.

The GHS is closely monitoring the situation and is implementing measures to contain the outbreak.
