V/R: 'Love relationship' sparks clash between immigration officers and Shia residents, two critically injured
Two residents of Shia in the Ho municipality of the Volta Region are in critical condition following a clash with officers of the Ghana Immigration Service stationed in the community.
According to Mr Wisdom Aditsi, the Assemblymember for the Shai-Ave Electoral Area, the confrontation stemmed from an earlier misunderstanding involving an immigration officer allegedly engaged in a relationship with a resident’s girlfriend.
Local youth, who had been monitoring the officer’s activities, raised concerns, leading to heightened tensions.
The situation escalated when an officer reportedly used pepper spray on one of the young men, sparking an outcry.
In response, angry residents took to the streets, blocking roads and burning tyres in protest.
Mr. Aditsi urged both the immigration officers and the community members to respect each other’s rights and authority to maintain peace and foster coexistence in the area.
