Developer of collapsed Adenta building faces arrest over defiance of halt directive
The owner of the multi-storey building that tragically collapsed at Adenta New site in the Greater Accra Region is expected to be taken into custody soon after allegedly ignoring official directives to halt construction.
According to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of La Nkwantanang-Madina, Ibrahim Fuseini Faila, the developer had initially received approval to construct only a single-storey structure.
However, authorities claim the owner continued to add extra floors in clear violation of the permit, despite multiple warnings and a formal stop-work order issued by the Assembly.
The collapse, which occurred recently, resulted in the heartbreaking death of 35-year-old Margaret Kpeli and left several other people injured.
Rescue and recovery operations have since concluded at the site.
In addition to facing potential criminal charges, the building owner will be held financially responsible for the full cost of debris removal, site clearance, and any other expenses linked to the incident.
The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly has reiterated its commitment to enforcing building regulations to prevent similar tragedies, stressing the importance of compliance with approved plans and safety standards.
This latest development highlights ongoing concerns about unregulated construction practices in parts of the Greater Accra Region.
Authorities are urging developers and property owners to strictly adhere to approved building permits and safety protocols.
