Driver, another in critical condition after accident on Ho-Accra Highway

A KIA Sportage driver and a passenger are in critical condition and have been rushed to Ho Teaching Hospital by the National Ambulance Service.
This followed an accident involving the KIA Sportage with registration number VR-409-18 and a Daewoo truck with registration number GX-7798-22 loaded with rice from Nyive border to Accra.
The accident occurred on Monday evening March 3, 2025, between Ho Ghana Water Company and Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on the Ho-Accra Highway.
The Ho Municipal Station Officer 2 of the GNFS, Michael Segbedzi, told Class News the driver was driving from the Sokorde Lokoe side on the Accra highway leading to Ho through the Electricity Company Ghana (ECG) road.
According to him, the driver of the KIA Sportage vied off his way, went over the middle pavement of the road and ran into the truck parked at the other side of the road.
“The driver, as a result, lost control and hit the side of the articulator, resulting in a gory accident,” he added.
He used the opportunity to appeal to drivers to do daily routine checkups before driving to save lives and property.
Mr Collins, the driver of the Daewoo truck, said they had loaded bags of rice from Nyive border to Accra and upon reaching Ghana Water Company, decided to park at the car park to withdraw money from a mobile money vender. He said in less than five minutes thereafter, they heard the sound of the collision.
He said he and his people did not know what happened to the driver because they had their backs to the scene.
Madam Victoria Tawuia said she seeing the KIA approaching on top speed, she prompted her colleague traders to run away. While doing that, she added, the car jumped over the pavement and hit the truck.
Another eyewitness said she heard the car’s brakes engaged about two times but without much success leading to the accident.
Other eyewitnesses alleged the victims were mechanics who were supposed to work on the car but had decided to go on a ride with it.
