Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has initiated a series of diplomatic engagements aimed at enhancing the country’s security framework amid growing regional and global threats.

Announcing the initiative on his Facebook wall on February 24, Dr. Omane Boamah emphasized the critical role of defence diplomacy in addressing security challenges such as cyber threats, illegal mining, and the threat of violent extremism within the West African sub-region.

As part of these efforts, the European Union is set to donate critical security equipment to Ghana this week, marking the beginning of tangible support from foreign development partners.

The Defence Minister noted that more such contributions are expected as Ghana strengthens its international alliances to fortify its security infrastructure.

The Minister also met with the United States Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer.

Dr. Omane Boamah acknowledged the economic difficulties facing the country but reaffirmed the government's commitment to adapting to global security trends and collaborating with international partners.

"In a mismanaged economy, coupled with security threats from cybercrime, illegal mining, and a sub-region grappling with violent extremism and terrorism, we will continue to be adaptive and receptive to friends around the globe," he stated.

He further stressed that Ghana remains committed to peaceful coexistence and global security, asserting that the country holds no hostility towards any nation in its pursuit of development and stability.

Additionally, Dr. Omane Boamah expressed gratitude for the successful completion of the oxygen plant at the 37 Military Hospital, reaffirming the government's responsibility in strengthening Ghana’s healthcare and security institutions.

With these engagements, Ghana is reinforcing its position as a key player in regional security, leveraging diplomatic partnerships to navigate modern security challenges, he concluded.
