Election Watch Ghana worries about large deployment of police personnel for NPP primary

Police deployment

Election Watch Ghana has issued a statement urging the Ghana Police Service and stakeholders to strike a balance between security deployment and public education ahead of the NPP presidential primary of the NPP  on January 31, 2026.                     The organisation welcomed the recent meeting between the NPP leadership, flagbearer representatives, the Ghana Police, and the Electoral Commission, but expressed concerns over the large-scale deployment of police officers.

With approximately 19,250 officers expected to be deployed across 275 constituencies, Election Watch Ghana emphasised the need for enhanced public education on democratic processes and civic responsibility to reduce the need for heavy security deployment and ensure peaceful and transparent elections.
