Former NPP Chairman Paul Afoko mourns Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Paul Afoko, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, describing it as a devastating personal and national loss.
The death of the Queen Mother comes at a time when Asanteman is already mourning the recent deaths of two prominent chiefs and a linguist.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III was the only surviving sister and the traditional mother of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 11, Mr Afoko noted his personal connection to the Asantehene, recalling the “great honour” when Otumfuo sent a high-level delegation to attend his late father’s funeral in Sandema, Upper East Region, earlier this year.
“I am particularly saddened by such a devastating blow to the Otumfuo on the loss of his only surviving sister and traditional mother,” Afoko said.
“I therefore join the numerous politicians, business leaders, clergy, traditional rulers, imams, and citizens who recognise the great treasure Ghana has in the Asantehene.”
He concluded his tribute with a traditional expression of condolence: “Nana Otumfuo, me ma wo due, due ne amanehunu. Due Damirifa Due.”
Funeral arrangements for Nana Konadu Yiadom III are expected to be announced by the Manhyia Palace next week.
