GA/R: 2 dead, 3 rescued after North Industrial Area building collapse

Two people have been confirmed dead and one other person has been injured following the collapse of a building in the North Industrial Area of Accra early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:25 AM on Sunday, June 7, 2026, triggering a large-scale emergency response.

Three individuals were initially pulled from the rubble by rescue teams; two were pronounced dead, while the third survivor was transported to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) for medical treatment. Eyewitnesses at the scene identified one of the deceased as a male worker known to laborers in the area.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana Armed Forces are currently conducting a joint search-and-rescue operation.

Firefighters from the Circle Fire Station and the GNFS Headquarters are utilizing specialized rescue equipment and heavy machinery, including excavators, to clear concrete slabs and twisted metal from the site.

Emergency responders remain on the scene as operations continue to ensure no additional victims are trapped beneath the debris. Authorities have stated that an official investigation into the cause of the structural failure will commence once search-and-rescue efforts are concluded.
