The Operation Halt 2 task force has captured 9 people in their anti-illegal mining (galamsey) operation.

The arrests were made along the Ankobra river at Prestea Nakaba, Western Region.

Apart from the arrests, the Colonel Eric Tenadu-led Operation Halt 2 task force, also, destroyed 33 grinding machines, 27 water pumps, 23 changfans, and three changfan boards, used for mining on the Ankobra.

A motorcycle found at the galamsey site was, also, torched.

Over a 100 soldiers from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have teamed up with small-scale mining operators to raid waterbodies in the Eastern, Central and Western Regions to capture galamsey operators, destroy their machines and stem the destruction of Ghana's natural environment.

This follows anti-galamsey protests in Accra.
