Ghana, Australia deepen bilateral ties with focus on mining, green transition and education

Ghana and Australia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations following a high-level diplomatic engagement between Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Berenice Owen-Jones.
The meeting, described by the Minister as “fantastic,” underscored a renewed momentum in Ghana-Australia relations, with both nations pledging to build on existing cooperation and accelerate shared development goals.
Key areas of mutual interest discussed included mining, with a particular focus on lithium and sustainable resource development, the green energy transition, agricultural research, and scholarship opportunities for Ghanaian students.
“We are determined to translate our shared vision into tangible results that benefit both our peoples,” Mr. Ablakwa stated after the meeting.
The two countries expressed optimism about expanding ongoing partnerships and unlocking new avenues for strategic collaboration, especially in emerging sectors tied to global sustainability and innovation agendas.
The engagement marks a significant step in Ghana’s broader diplomatic efforts to deepen international cooperation in critical sectors as part of its national development drive.
