Ghana Medical Trust Fund showcases role in strengthening healthcare financing at 2026 Health Summit
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has highlighted its growing contribution to improving healthcare access in Ghana as it participated in the Ministry of Health’s 2026 Annual Health Summit in Accra.
The summit, held under the theme “Building a Resilient Health Workforce to Accelerate the Attainment of Universal Health Coverage,” brought together key stakeholders in the health sector to deliberate on strategies to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system.
Led by its Administrator, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, the GMTF used the platform to reaffirm its commitment to supporting patients suffering from chronic and life-threatening conditions through financial assistance aimed at reducing the burden of medical costs.
The Fund noted that affordability remains one of the major barriers to accessing healthcare in Ghana, and its interventions are designed to ensure that no individual is denied life-saving treatment due to financial constraints.
Officials explained that achieving Universal Health Coverage goes beyond infrastructure development and workforce training, stressing that financial protection for patients is a critical component of a resilient health system.
Through collaborations with healthcare providers, institutions, and communities, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund says it is working to bridge gaps in healthcare financing and improve access to essential treatment services nationwide.
The Fund’s participation in the summit, according to its leadership, reflects its continued commitment to supporting national efforts aimed at strengthening the health sector and improving service delivery.
GMTF officials further emphasized their vision of contributing to a healthcare system where all citizens, regardless of income, can access quality and timely medical care.
The Fund expressed optimism that sustained partnerships and policy support will help accelerate Ghana’s progress toward Universal Health Coverage, ensuring improved health outcomes for all citizens.
