Ghana reaffirms commitment to greener, safer maritime sector at IMO Assembly
Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), H.E. Sabah Zita Benson, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to advancing safer, greener and more resilient global shipping.
Addressing delegates at the 34th Session of the IMO Assembly in London, H.E. Benson called for stronger international collaboration to ensure that developing maritime nations fully benefit from the rapid transformation taking place in the global maritime industry.
She highlighted significant progress made by Ghana in recent years, including the development of a National Action Plan on Green Shipping and the country’s accession to the Cape Town Agreement—an important milestone in enhancing maritime safety.
H.E. Benson also announced Ghana’s plans to deploy an advanced Vessel Traffic Management System, a move expected to improve maritime surveillance, operational efficiency, and safety along the country’s coastline.
She reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to enhance compliance, strengthen maritime governance, and continue contributing to the IMO’s mission of ensuring safe, secure and environmentally sound shipping worldwide.
