The Government of Ghana has expressed concern following the United States' recent revision of its visa reciprocity schedule, which has reduced the validity of B1/B2 visas for Ghanaian citizens from five-year multiple-entry to three-month single-entry.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the government acknowledged the potential impact the decision could have on Ghanaian travellers and assured citizens of its unwavering support.

The Ministry described the move as a significant departure from the longstanding reciprocal visa arrangements between the two countries.

It also pledged to engage U.S. authorities in ongoing dialogue to seek an early and amicable resolution to the matter.

According to the statement, Ghana has issued over 40,000 visas to U.S. citizens between January and July this year, with approximately 70% being multiple-entry, long-term visas, highlighting the country's continued openness and commitment to facilitating travel and cooperation.

The Ministry reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and revealed that Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa recently led high-level engagements with U.S. officials.

These discussions, it noted, yielded positive outcomes and reflected both nations’ shared interest in preserving strong diplomatic and people-to-people ties.

The government reiterated its readiness to sustain constructive dialogue with the United States aimed at advancing mutual interests and resolving issues in a spirit of partnership.
