President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his administration will invest GH¢2 billion in healthcare infrastructure between 2025 and 2028, as part of a bold initiative to close gaps in access to healthcare and enhance service delivery across Ghana.

Speaking at a Presidential Media Encounter last night, Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the president revealed that the 2025 national budget made an initial allocation of GH¢200 million to fast-track the construction, expansion, and modernisation of hospitals, clinics, and health centres in both rural and urban areas.

He emphasised his administration’s commitment to providing every Ghanaian with access to affordable, quality healthcare, describing the investment as a critical step toward strengthening the country’s health system.

President Mahama further disclosed that his administration had uncapped the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL), a move that led to a 66% increase in funding for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). As a result, allocations to the scheme have increased from GH¢5.9 billion in 2024 to GH¢9.8 billion in 2025, aimed at improving coverage, sustainability, and service delivery under the NHIS.

The Greater Accra Regional (Ridge) Hospital and University of Ghana (UG) Medical Centre (MC), all in Accra, are often cited as two monumental healthcare investments that demonstrate President Mahama's commitment to quality healthcare.
