The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Mr John Dumelo, has pledged to prioritise the safety of students in the constituency following the death of Nelson, a student journalist who was reportedly knocked down while attempting to cross the N1 highway.

Describing the incident as tragic and deeply unfortunate, Mr Dumelo expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) community.

He gave this assurance after the death of the GIJ student on the George Walker Bush N1 highway in Accra.

“The safety of every student in Ayawaso West Wuogon is my utmost priority.

The passing of Nelson is very unfortunate, and as a Member of Parliament, it is my duty to ensure that appropriate measures are taken immediately to prevent similar incidents,” he said.

The MP assured students and residents that steps would be taken to improve safety along the stretch of the George W. Bush N1 highway, which has long been considered hazardous for pedestrians.

Mr Dumelo said he stands in solidarity with the GIJ community during the difficult period and pledged to work with relevant authorities to implement solutions aimed at protecting students and the general public.
