Kasoa police invite CMG journalist to identify GNFS officers over alleged assault
The Kasoa District Police Command has invited Class Media Group (CMG) journalist Samuel Addo, who was allegedly assaulted by officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), as part of ongoing investigations into the incident.
The alleged assault occurred on Monday while the journalist was filming an altercation between a civilian and a firefighter.
Police say the invitation was to enable the victim to identify the GNFS officers involved in the attack.
When a fire commander later visited the station with two officers, one of them was identified by the journalist as his assailant.
Investigators have also requested that Samuel Addo provide eyewitness accounts from fellow journalists who were present at the scene.
Despite the existence of a viral video footage of the incident, police insist that the victim must formally identify the officers involved to support the investigation.
The journalist has, however, raised concerns about the process, questioning why only two officers were presented when he maintains that about 10 firefighters participated in the assault.
Police say the ongoing actions are aimed at fully investigating the matter and ensuring that appropriate steps were taken against those responsible.
