Labianca woman passes on

Eunice Jacqueline Buah Asomah-Hinneh, owner of Labianca Company and a member of the Council of State, has died after a brief illness, sources familiar with her passing have revealed.
She was the centre of controversy in 2022 when calls for her resignation intensified after a report by the Office of the Special Prosecutor implicated her in corruption-related offences.
The report alleged that Mrs Asomah-Hinneh and another official used their positions to secure favourable tax treatment for Labianca Company, her frozen foods business.
Prominent anti-corruption advocate Vitus Azeem demanded that Mrs Asomah-Hinneh step down, citing her involvement in the Labianca case.
He also urged President Akufo-Addo to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter to demonstrate his commitment to fighting corruption.
However, the High Court in Accra later quashed the Special Prosecutor’s report, which had found wrongdoing by two individuals in the Labianca case.
The court also ordered the Office of the Special Prosecutor to pay GHS10,000 in costs.
The Special Prosecutor’s report had accused Colonel Kwadwo Damoah, a former Commissioner of the Customs Division at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and Mr Joseph Adu Kyei, a former Deputy Commissioner of the Division, of misconduct in the case.
