MTN data breach: Stay calm as we investigate, resolve it – Comm Min
The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has said its attention has been drawn to “a cyber breach affecting about 5,700 MTN customers”.
A Tuesday, April 29, 2025, statement revealed, “The Ministry is working closely with the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), the National Communications Authority (NCA) and the Data Protection Commission (DPC) to investigate the potential breach.
“This collaboration aims to determine the extent of the breach and ensure that necessary measures are taken to protect customer data.”
Furthermore, the Ministry said it would ensure affected customers were contacted in line with Data Protection Laws
“The Ministry is working to establish if there are any breaches on the part of the Mobile Network Operator,” the statement noted.
“The Ministry urges all customers to remain calm as we work together to resolve the issue and keep the public updated.”
