Mahama warns against hate speech and incitement on social media: “We can find you”

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a stern warning against the use of hate speech and incitement in Ghana’s political discourse on social media, stressing that offenders will be traced and dealt with according to the law.
Speaking during an engagement with the media at the Jubilee House, Mr. Mahama said freedom of expression must not be abused to promote violence, ethnic divisions, or threats against individuals and communities.
“We can find you. Hate speech and incitement will be traced and dealt with under the law,” he cautioned.
The President emphasised that Ghana’s democracy thrives on tolerance, respect, and peaceful debate, and urged political actors, social media users, and the public to exercise responsibility in their communication.
Mr. Mahama’s remarks come amid growing concerns over the rise of toxic political rhetoric and online abuse as the nation prepares for future elections.
