Flooding on Nsawam–Pokuase highway leaves commuters stranded after heavy rains

A torrential downpour on Friday, September 12, left portions of the Nsawam–Pokuase highway submerged, causing severe traffic disruptions and leaving commuters stranded for hours.
The rainfall, which lasted several hours, led to flooding on key sections of the road, making movement difficult for motorists. Some drivers were forced to park by the roadside, while others risked navigating through the floodwaters.
Passengers waiting at bus stops along the stretch were also stranded, with many voicing frustration over what they described as a persistent problem whenever heavy rains occur.
Local residents attributed the flooding to poor drainage systems and unchecked construction along waterways, calling on city authorities to act swiftly to address the situation.
No casualties were recorded, but the incident has once again highlighted Accra’s vulnerability to flooding during the rainy season.
