Tensions have erupted in the Amansie West District following reports that the Assembly Member for Aboabo, Mr. Samuel Danquah, was fatally shot during a confrontation between local residents and military personnel allegedly linked to Asanko Mines in the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred today during a protest sparked by the alleged killing of a miner by mine security.

The demonstration, which saw residents block key roads to demand accountability, quickly escalated into violence.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that soldiers deployed to the scene fired live ammunition into the crowd, leaving Mr. Danquah dead and at least two others critically injured.
