Ministerial vetting: Chaos as majority and minority disagree over vetting beyond 10 PM
The ongoing vetting of ministerial appointees has been taken to Speaker Alban Bagbin’s conference room.
The change in rooms was necessitated by Parliament’s Appointments Committee descending into chaos on Thursday evening, January 30, 2025, due to tensions and heated confrontations between the Minority and Majority.
During the chaos and fighting between MPs, tables and microphones were destroyed.

It took the intervention of police and the Majority Leader to restore order, preventing further escalation.
“Please let us not destroy the enviable image that Ghana has created in terms of our democracy,” Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga said.

While the Majority asserted the vetting process had to continue beyong 10PM, the Minority strongly disagreed, suggesting the exercise be postponed to Friday.
When the chaos erupted, the Minister-designate for Health and Foreign Affairs, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, was seated for vetting. After him would have come the Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Frank Annoh-Dompreh, MP for Nsawom Adoagyire, and Minority Chief Whip, said, “We agreed on four. We have done five. Kofi Adams was not part of the process, but we have done it. It will not happen.”
