NAIMOS and Blue Water guards strikes: Illegal mining community along the Ankobra River dismantled

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), in a joint anti-galamsey operation with the Nzema East Blue Water Guards, on Thursday, 11th September 2025, dismantled an illegal mining community at Gwira Abrodeam, Nzema East Municipality.
The settlement, which had over 99 makeshift structures and housed more than 2,000 illegal miners and their dependents, was completely destroyed.
The joint task force also destroyed 54 changfan machines and seized several items, including two motorbikes, two pumping machines, one gas cylinder, one DSTV dish, one solar panel, one television set, six containers of engine oil, and ten gallons of fuel.
Three excavators, previously immobilised during earlier operations, were further rendered completely unserviceable to prevent reuse.
This latest raid forms part of NAIMOS’ intensified anti-galamsey campaign to rid Ghana’s water bodies, including the Ankobra, Birim, Pra, and Bonsa rivers of widespread pollution caused by illegal mining activities.
