The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has paid tribute to its founder, former President Jerry John Rawlings, by renaming its national headquarters in his honour and unveiling a commemorative bust to celebrate his contribution to Ghana's political history.

The ceremony, held on Monday, June 22, formed part of activities marking what would have been the late statesman's 79th birthday.

Organised under the theme, "From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy," the event brought together party executives, supporters, government officials, and dignitaries to reflect on Rawlings' role in shaping Ghana's democratic journey and the establishment of the Fourth Republic.

The day's programme commenced with the official dedication of the party's headquarters to the memory of Rawlings, a move the NDC says is intended to preserve the ideals and vision of the man credited with founding the party. The unveiling of a bust at the headquarters followed, serving as a lasting symbol of his influence on the party and the nation.

Addressing attendees, party leaders highlighted Rawlings' enduring impact on Ghana's governance, democratic development, and political landscape, noting that his principles continue to guide the NDC's philosophy and direction.

President John Dramani Mahama was expected to join the gathering and deliver a tribute, alongside other senior party figures, in recognition of Rawlings' lasting contributions to national development.

Rawlings, who died in November 2020, remains one of Ghana's most consequential political figures. He first assumed leadership as a military ruler before overseeing the country's transition to constitutional democracy and later serving as Ghana's first President under the Fourth Republic from 1993 to 2001.

The renaming of the headquarters and installation of the memorial bust form part of the NDC's broader efforts to preserve the legacy of its founder and reaffirm its commitment to the values he championed throughout his public service.
