Nkawkaw Central Market to be demolished after Easter for modern redevelopment

News
Proposed Nkawkaw Central Market redevelopment

The Nkawkaw Central Market will be demolished after the Easter festivities to pave the way for the construction of a modern market facility.

The redevelopment forms part of efforts by authorities to improve trading conditions and upgrade infrastructure within the municipality.

At a stakeholders’ meeting with traders, the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwahu West Municipal District, Tamimu Halidu, assured that the contractor is expected to complete the project within eight months.

He also pledged that newly built stores would be reallocated to the original market women once the project is completed.

To minimise disruption to business activities during the reconstruction period, the Municipal Assembly has secured temporary trading locations for affected traders. These include Adom Market, Nsuta Market, Akuajoo Market, and the Railway Area Nkawkaw, where trading will continue while construction is underway.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief of Nkawkaw, the Nkawkaw Sanaahene, Nana Onwona Asante, appealed to traders, particularly market women, to cooperate with the authorities and support the exercise.

He stressed that the project, scheduled to begin after Easter, is intended to beautify the town and improve business operations.
